GANDHINAGAR - Keeping with the Narendra Modi government’s tradition of organising the state-level Republic Day functions at various regional headquarters, Governor Kamla Beniwal Tuesday unfurled the national flag in the state’s Surendranagar district.

Surendranagar town was decked up as never before for its first-ever state level Republic Day parade where the governor took the salute at a colourful marchpast of various units of the state police, the National Cadets Corps (NCC), the Home Guards besides student-cadets of the National Service Scheme (NSS).

Floats depicting various facets of the state’s cultural and social life also rolled down as part of the parade. Every government department participated showcasing its achievements. While the tourism department’s float was adjudged the winner, the forest department’s float was found to be second best.

Over 550 students presented a programme of folk dances and songs.
