W.Va. gov urges company to drop lawsuit plan

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin is firing back at a mental health services provider that accused him of plotting to destroy the company.

Manchin said in a news release Friday that Northwood Health Systems’ allegation that it is being retaliated against for speaking out on health care issues last year is “completely false” and “insulting.”

Rather than pursue a lawsuit, Manchin says Northwood should focus on taking care of its clients.

The Wheeling, W.Va.-based company filed a notice of intent to sue on Tuesday and singled out Manchin as leading the effort to punish it.

The Office of Health Facility Licensure and Certification declined to renew Northwood’s license in October, citing concerns over patient treatment.
