Talk host Ed Schultz won’t run for US Senate in ND

BISMARCK, N.D. — MSNBC personality Ed Schultz says he won’t run for the U.S. Senate in North Dakota, a day after he discussed a possible candidacy on the network.

Schultz appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show Thursday, and said he is not running for the Senate.

Incumbent Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan is not running for re-election. The news prompted the North Dakota House’s Democratic leader to ask Schultz earlier this week if he’d consider running. The former Fargo radio talk show host talked about the prospect Wednesday on his MSNBC show.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee sent a letter to the network Thursday, saying MSNBC could be making illegal corporate contributions to Schultz’s campaign if he kept talking about running.
