RAE BARELI - Congress president Sonia Gandhi is “dissatisfied and disappointed” with the slow progress of the central government’s public welfare schemes in her Uttar Pradesh constituency Rae Bareli, a party spokesperson said Saturday.
Gandhi, who arrived here Friday, is on a two-day tour of her constituency to review the status of developmental schemes.
“Sonia-ji is thoroughly dissatisfied over the manner in which the central government-sponsored schemes are being carried out in her constituency,” Akhilesh Pratap Singh, state Congress spokesperson, told reporters here.
“The feedback which Sonia-ji received yesterday (Friday) during the first day of her tour left her highly disappointed. She even pulled up a number of district officials and directed them to meet her with files related to projects being carried out at a tardy pace,” he said.
According to party officials, Gandhi was unhappy as she came across anomalies in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Mid-Day Meal scheme and the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutkaran Yojana in a number of villages, including Khanpur, Satwakhera, Barwala.
On Saturday, the Congress president is to chair a meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee and will also meet party workers and delegations, party sources said.
