RAE BARELI - Congress president Sonia Gandhi began a two-day tour of her Uttar Pradesh constituency Rae Bareli to review the status of developmental schemes, a party official said.

After reaching Rae Bareli, Gandhi first went to the Chandrabhan Khera village and met people there. She then visited Prahlad Khera and Baraulia villages.

She also participated in a public meeting in Sareni town, Akhilesh Pratap Singh, the state Congress spokesperson, told reporters here.

“Soniaji reached Rae Bareli after halting at several points where she interacted with villagers and sought feedback about the status of developmental work in their area,” he added.

While Gandhi interacted with villagers in Rae Bareli, mediapersons were kept nearly a kilometre away from her cavalcade.

On Saturday, Gandhi will participate in party meetings and return to New Delhi by evening, said Singh.

Rae Bareli, from where Sonia Gandhi was elected to the Lok Sabha this year, was earlier represented by her mother-in-law and former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
