Obama helps Democrats raise $1M at DC fundraiser

WASHINGTON — With midterm elections looming, President Barack Obama helped his Democratic Party raise more than $1 million at a dinner at a private home near Washington’s Georgetown neighborhood.

A Democratic official speaking anonymously because the event was private said the asking price for Thursday’s affair at the home of Frank White was $30,400 per couple. White is a local businessman, early Obama supporter and a member of the party’s finance committee.

Media coverage was not permitted because the fundraiser was at a private home, in what used to be a women’s hospital.

Earlier this month, Obama attended a pair of fundraisers in Miami that netted the party $2.5 million, including an event at the estate of singer Gloria Estefan.
