NEW DELHI - The Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned Thursday when a member fell ill soon after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s speech and had to be attended to by doctors.

Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) member Prasanta Kumar Majumdar, a member from Balurghat in West Bengal, complained of uneasiness, forcing Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to abruptly adjourn the proceedings.

This happened soon after Manmohan Singh’s reply to the motion of thanks to President Pratibha Patil’s address to the joint sitting of parliament.

The prime minister had risen from his seat to reply to a clarification sought by BJP member Rajnath Singh when it had to be adjourned.

Majumdar had to be rushed out of the house, where doctors administered first-aid. He was later taken to the nearby Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

The speaker adjourned the house for about 15 minutes.
