Karunanidhi to discuss seat-sharing with PM, Sonia

NEW DELHI - Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to discuss seat-sharing for the upcoming elections in the state

Karunanidhi, who arrived here on Sunday, said he will meet Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi to discuss the seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties.

“I am here for election (related) talks. I will be meeting the Prime Minister, Congress chief and discuss about the seat-sharing formula,” he added.

He said he would discuss the number of seats to be contested by the Congress in the assembly elections, which are due in May.

He also confirmed that the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) would be part of the DMK-Congress alliance for the upcoming elections in the state.

“PMK, Muslim League, VCK will be in the alliance other than Congress and DMK,” Karunanidhi added.

Karunanidhi is expected to take up a host of issues with the Centre, including the recent killing of Indian fishermen, allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy personnel.

During his two-day stay, he will attend the Chief Minister’s Conference on Internal Security on February 1 and return to Chennai the same day.

Karunanidhi is accompanied by Union Ministers Dayanidhi Maran and Jagatratchakan, State Ministers Ponmudi and Duraimurugan and DMK Rajya Sabha member K Kanimozhi. (ANI)
