CHENNAI - The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Tuesday decided to align with the AIADMK to fight the ensuing Tamil Nadu assembly elections this May.

The party’s state executive passed a resolution to this effect and also constituted a three-member panel comprising of state secretary G. Ramakrishnan, T.K. Rangarajan and K. Balakrishan to work out seat sharing dialogue with the AIADMK.

The CPI-M’s resolution said that the DMK-Congress combine should be defeated to save Tamil Nadu people and hence the decision to align with the AIADMK.

CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat met AIADMK’s supremo J. Jayalalithaa for 45 minutes.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Karat said he invited her to participate in the protest to be held in New Delhi next month against price rise.

He also conveyed to her his party’s decision to align with the AIADMK in the ensuing assembly elections.
