NEW DELHI - Newly-appointed Culture Minister Kumari Selja Thursday said that garnering resources for organisations like the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) would be among the things she would focus on.

“I will try to address the problems of organisations like the ASI. They are doing a good work despite the shortage of manpower, legal help and funds, Selja said after assuming her office in the culture minsitry.

Augmenting human resource will be in focus too as there is a shortage of trained staff, she said.

“Increasing manpower is certainly on the agenda,” she said.

Selja, who holds charge of housing and urban poverty alleviation, was given charge of culture ministry in the cabinet reshuffle Wednesday. Her tourism portfolio was, however, given to Subodh Kant Sahay, who earlier held the charge of food processing industry.

The culture ministry was with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier.

“Showcasing performance and classical arts and encouraging various academies will also be the focus,” Selja added.
