BHOPAL - The Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress Saturday tried to put the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the dock after one of its state leaders Ramesh Garg was fined Rs.156 crore for tax evasion.
Garg, president of the business cell of BJP’s Madhya Pradesh unit, Thursday paid a fine of Rs.156 crore to the income tax department.
Terming it BJP’s nexus with white-collar criminals, Congress spokesperson K.K. Mishra said: “The BJP should explain to the people how their office bearer has been found in possession of huge amount of unaccounted money in income tax raid. What ideal, culture and political propriety does it exemplify?”
In March 2010, the tax department raided 63 premises owned by Garg, the chairman of K.S. Oils Ltd.
The sleuths had dug out the company’s hidden assets worth crores of rupees, including investments in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh and in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.
