National Security Advisor Tom Donilon met today with Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara in the White House. They held an in-depth discussion of regional and bilateral issues. Mr. Donilon and Foreign Minister Maehara discussed the goals for Prime Minister Naoto Kan’s planned visit to the United States in first half of 2011. Mr. Donilon expressed appreciation for Japan’s efforts in strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance and for Japan’s contributions to numerous global issues. They agreed that the United States and Japan will continue close consultation and cooperation on North Korea and other areas of mutual concern.
