Malay-Indian NGOs send memorandum to PM highlighting problems

KUALA LUMPUR - A number of Indian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have reportedly sent two memoranda to Malaysian Special Implementation Task Force for Indians to highlight their problems to the Prime Minister.

The Star quoted Malaysian Indian Business Association President P. Sivakumar as saying that the NGOs were worried about the low number of Indians in the state civil service.

He further said that the group had already highlighted the problem to Johor Unity, Human Resource, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman M. Asojan, but were still waiting for an answer.

“According to Asojan, the mentri besar had agreed to give about 1,000 jobs for Indians in the state civil service. And if this is true then the state government should at least recruit about 200 Indians a year but till this day nothing has happened,” Sivakumar added.

The other memorandum concerns having more Indians in the state welfare department and skills training centre.

“We want Indians to be represented in the state Welfare Department as currently there are none on the Indian community,” he said. (ANI)
