Sonia Gandhi slams BJP, says should look at its own record on corruption

NEW DELHI - Slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their lack of action against corruption in Karnataka, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday said that the BJP must look at its own track record before pointing fingers at the government.

Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting here, Gandhi said: “, “Who are they (BJP) to lecture us on corruption.? They must look at its own track record before pointing fingers at us.”

“The BJP should look into the mirror and should not denigrate the institution called Parliament,” she added

She also stressed that while the Congress has been quick to take action against members accused of corruption, the BJP has refused to fire Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa who is accused of gifting government land to family members in and around Bangalore.

Lashing out at the Opposition for disrupting Parliament proceedings over the 2G scam, Gandhi said: “The process of investigation is on into the corruption issue and the Opposition should not undermine the institutions.”

She, however, made it clear that the government will not relent to the demand of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the scam.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of unending opposition protests demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G scam.

The opposition also wants a JPC on allegations of corruption in the Commonwealth Games and the Adarsh housing society scam in Mumbai.

Congress sources said the party will firm up its plan of action to take on the opposition at the party’s plenary which will be held in New Delhi from December 18. (ANI)
