Rahul Gandhi did not fail in Bihar: Congress

NEW DELHI/PATNA - The Congress Wednesday rejected criticism that party general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s election rallies in Bihar had failed to win seats.

“His (Rahul Gandhi’s) meetings attracted people. He is a leader of national stature, Congress general secretary B.K. Hariprasad said referring to reports on allegations that Gandhi’s meetings had failed to make an impact.

We accept defeat with all humility, he said, adding that the party was fighting assembly polls in the state on its own after a long gap and it was for the workers to turn a successful rally into votes.

A Congress leader in Patna, however, said Gandhi had failed to click in Bihar, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led his alliance to a resounding victory in the assembly elections.

“We have to admit that Rahul Gandhi failed to attract voters in Bihar,” said the party leader, who did not wish to be identified by name.

“Rahul did not click in Bihar,” he said.

Gandhi had campaigned extensively in Bihar and had accused the chief minister of not doing enough for the state’s development.
