Britain’s queen arrives in UAE

Abu Dhabi, Nov 24 (IANS/WAM) Britain’s queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip arrived here Wednesday as part of their visit aimed at promoting ties with the region.

The queen will attend the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and pay her respects at the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, who hosted Elizabeth II when she visited the country for the first time in 1979.

The two countries will renew their 1971 Treaty of Friendship. The agreement will be signed by the foreign ministers of both countries.

The issue of bilateral relationship will be discussed during a meeting between the queen and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE.

The British embassy will host an event to celebrate the special partnership between Britain and the UAE.

The couple will leave for Muscat, Oman Thursday.
