BHUBANESWAR - Congress activists in Orissa Friday staged demonstrations and burnt effigies of former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief K.S. Sudarshan for derogatory remarks against their president Sonia Gandhi.

In Bhubaneswar, hundreds of Congress members, including several senior leaders of the party, carried out a procession in the state capital Bhubaneswar carrying posters and banners. They also burnt an effigy of the RSS leader and demanded his arrest.

“He (Sudarshan) should know that she (Sonia Gandhi) is an MP and also chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance,” Asima Mahananda, president of the state women’s unit, said.

“We will intensify our protest in the coming days,” added another Congress leader, Suresh Kumar Routray.

Similar protests were reported from other parts of the state, including Cuttack, Puri, Dhenkanal, Balasore and Bolangir.
