Musharraf wanted to replace Jinnah’s image with his own on Pak currency notes: Jamali

Islamabad, Nov 11(ANI): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has revealed that former President Pervez Musharraf wanted to replace Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s image on the country’s currency notes with his photo.

Jamali further said that Musharraf’s wish could not be materialized as he “straight forward refused” the idea.

He also told Musharraf that Jinnah was the identity of the nation and people cannot forget his services for the country, the Nation reports.

All banknotes, other than the one and two rupee notes, feature a portrait of Jinnah on the obverse along with writing in Urdu.

Musharraf had served as the tenth Pakistan President from 2001 to 2008, and was the Army Chief of the Pakistan Army from 1998 to 2007.

In August 2008, Musharraf resigned from the post of President under impeachment pressure from the coalition government. (ANI)
