India-US ties defining relationship of 21st century: Obama

NEW DELHI - The partnership between India and the US is “one of the defining partersnhips of the 21st century”, President Barack Obama said Monday.

Speaking briefly to reporters after a ceremonial guard of honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here, Obama described India as a “world power”.

He said given that India was not an emerging power but a world power, the US and India would be able to work together.

Obama said India and the US were the two largest democracies in the world with extraordinary people-to-people contacts.

And the two countries shared certain values, he said.
