Turkish folk dances, music, movies to mark national day

NEW DELHI - A colourful performance of Turkish folk dances and music will be held in the capital Nov 1 and 2 to mark the national day of Turkey.
The dances, by the Hacettepe University Folk Dances Group, are being presented by the embassy of Turkey in cooperation with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
A 10-member group of dancers in colourful traditional attire will stage folk dances and music from different regions of Turkey at the Jamia Millia Islamia Nov 1 and at Kamani auditorium Nov 2. A special drum performance will also be held during these shows, a statement by Turkish Tourism said.
The dancers will perform items like Ashik-Mashik, Henna Night Dance (Mehndi Ki Raat), Candle Dance, Gaziantep, Bingl, and many more from the various regions of Turkey.
Turkey became a republic Oct 29, 1923 and the day is observed as its national day.
A festival of Turkish films will also be held in Mumbai at the Tata Theatre of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) from Nov 1-3. The film fest has been organised jointly by The Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey at Mumbai, ICCR and the NCPA.
The Turkish films will include the award-winning “Lovelorn” (2005), a drama directed by Yavuz Turgul. The other films are “Two Lines”, “The Goal of My Life”, “Ice Cream I Scream” and “My Father And My Son”. The films will be a treat for those who would like to get an insight into contemporary Turkish life, the statement said.
