JAMMU - The Congress has decided to “further strengthen” its base in all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir, pradesh Congress committee president Saifuddin Soz said Saturday.

Soz, who met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi Friday, issued a statement here Saturday claiming that the party has decided to move with vigour in all the three regions of the state - Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir Valley.

Soz, who of late has been voicing concern over the functioning of the National Conference-led state government in which Congress is an alliance partner, said that he apprised Gandhi of the “prevailing situation in the state” - a euphemism for the unrest that has left at least 110 people dead in over four months.

He quoted Gandhi having voiced the hope that the party would be further strengthened in all the three regions of the state.

The Congress has a strong presence in Jammu, where 13 of its candidates were among the 17 legislators elected in the 2008 assembly polls.
