Mayawati wants Rs.2351 cr assistance from Centre for UP’s flood hit areas

NEW DELHI - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday called on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the capital to seek Rs.2,351 crore as a relief package from the Centre for the flood-ravaged areas of the State.

Talking to reporters after her meeting with the Dr. Manmohan Singh, Mayawati said, “I met the Prime Minister today. The meeting lasted one hour. We have asked for a central relief of Rs.2,351 crore which needs to be urgently made available to the State.”

Mayawati also informed that her demands included Rs. 5,962 crore for Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna, Rs,9700 cr for the Rajiv Gandhi Vidhyutikaran Yojna, Rs.602 cr for Central Road Fund, and Rs.1621 cr for Border Shetra Sampark Marg Pariyojna.

She informed reporters that issues relating to development of Uttar Pradesh were discussed at length at the meeting.

This was Mayawati’s first meeting with the Prime Minister since August 2009. She had not attended the meeting of the National Development Council held a few months ago to discuss internal security.

Mayawati had recently written three letters to the Prime Minister asking for a special package for flooded afffected areas of the State. (ANI)
