Mayawati meets PM, asks for more flood-relief funds

NEW DELHI - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Monday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to grant more funds for the flood-ravaged areas of the state.

I met the prime minister today. The meeting lasted one hour. We have asked for a central relief of Rs.2,351 crore,” the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader told reporters here.

Over 300 people have died, while nearly 7,000 villages have been affected after water levels rose in major rivers in the state due to heavy rains during September.
