BOSTON — A campaign adviser for Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick says President Barack Obama is planning to visit the state as Patrick faces a tough re-election campaign.
The adviser told The Associated Press on Tuesday the visit is planned for Oct. 16 but the details are still being worked out. The adviser spoke on condition of anonymity because the campaign has yet to make a formal announcement.
Patrick is being challenged by Republican Charles Baker, independent Timothy Cahill and Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein in his bid for a second term.
Patrick and Obama share Chicago roots and a Harvard University pedigree. Patrick was invited back to the White House for a reception after Obama’s inauguration.
Obama appeared at a fundraiser for Patrick in April.
