Air Force declares cyberwarfare unit operational
PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The Air Force says its cyberwarfare unit is now fully operational.
Gen. C. Robert Kehler (KAY-luhr), head of the Air Force Space Command, made the announcement Friday.
The cyberwarfare unit is known as the 24th Air Force and is based at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. It is part of the Air Force Space Command, based at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
The 24th Air Force was initially activated in August 2009 and will work to defend Air Force computer networks from cyberattcks.
