Swedish government gains 1 seat in late vote count
STOCKHOLM — A tally of foreign and advance ballots from Sweden’s election has given the center-right government another seat in Parliament, but it still lacks a majority.
Wednesday’s vote count gave Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt’s four-party alliance 173 seats, one more than it had after the first count, on Sunday.
It’s still two seats short of controlling the 349-seat Parliament. The left-wing opposition won 156 seats and the far-right Sweden Democrats entered the legislature for the first time with 20 seats.
The Election Authority says Sunday’s vote count didn’t include foreign ballots and some advance ballots.
The results are still preliminary. Final results are expected Thursday after a re-count of all votes.
