LA says only 41 pot dispensaries can stay open
LOS ANGELES — The city of Los Angeles says only 41 medical marijuana dispensaries can remain open under a city ordinance and letters have been sent to 129 clinics notifying them they may be shut down.
The city attorney’s office says it expects a slew of lawsuits after Wednesday’s announcement and will file a countersuit asking a judge to determine that the city’s process in interpreting the law was appropriate.
Nearly 30 lawsuits have already been filed challenging the procedure the City Council adopted Jan. 26 to limit the number of dispensaries.
The city says it won’t seek to shut any clinics before a court ruling.
