Gujarat gets new home minister

GANDHINAGAR - Praful Patel, who was among the four ministers of state sworn in by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Saturday, has been given the home department, an official said.

Of the other three ministers, Pradeepsinh Jadeja will handle law, justice and parliamentary affairs, Vasuben Trivedi higher education and women and child welfare and Kanu Bhalala, agriculture and water resources.

Patel replaces Amit Shah who had resigned July 24 after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accused him of involvement in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged gunfight case. He was arrested the next day and is in judicial custody.
