MICHIGAN (GaeaTimes.com) — Michigan gets a new face. The results of the Michigan Election 2010 are out finally. The Governor of Michigan has been decided upon. Reportedly, former Gateway Chief Executive Rick Snyder has won the Michigan Republican primary for governor. Mr. Snyder defeated Representative Pete Hoekstra and state Attorney General Mike Cox in the five-way GOP race.
Michigan’s Virg Bernero has captured his party’s nomination for governor, on the Democratic side. Mr. Bernero, the Lansing mayor, defeated state House Speaker Andy Dillon in the primary.
Mr. Rick Snyder’s win comes as a surprise. The Republican likely became the ace with the state facing one of the nation’s highest unemployment rates. Among others, Michigan Democratic Representative Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick has been defeated by state Sen. Hansen Clarke, the AP reports. Ms. Kilpatrick was surrounded by political difficulties that rooted around her son, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
