ATLANTA (GaeaTimes.com)- A black federal worker who was employed with the United States Department of Agriculture had to quit after a video clip was released that showed her making racists comments in which she said that she did not help a farmer as much as she could have as he was white. The news that Shirley Sherrod who held the position of USDA’s Georgia director of Rural Development, has resigned from her job was validated by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack who said in a statement that the federal worker was forced out of her job. Further distancing itself from the fiasco, the U.S. Agriculture Secretary added that the organization believes in zero tolerance when it comes to racial discrimination.

Shirley Sherrod had made the controversial remark at local meeting of the civil rights group NAACP which was held sometime in the month of March. In the video clip, the former USDA rural development agency director told the media that she did not provide a white farmer the ‘full force’ of the assistance that she was capable pf when he sort her help as he was facing bankruptcy. Meanwhile, Benjamin Todd Jealous, the national president of the NAACP also welcomed the news that Shirley Sherrod had stepped down from her job as he emphasized that the group condemns racial discrimination in any kind of form.

After issuing her resignation, Shirley Sherrod revealed to the media that the comments that she had made in the NAACP meeting were taken out of context. The former USDA rural development director emphasized that she referred to the incident that took place two decades ago as she just wanted to make hint that people should move beyond race.

This is another example of special interest groups, in this case the NAACP, saying jump and the federal government does. I am not seeing the NAACP held accountable for their role in this. They along with the White House fell for the old prank of filling a paper bag with dog poop, lighting it on fire, and ringing the door bell. The White House, NAACP, & USDA all jumped on the bag with both feet.
