Kenyan PM recovering after brain procedure
NAIROBI, Kenya — A doctor says Kenya’s prime minister is recovering well in the hospital after doctors drilled a hole in his head to drain fluids that were putting pressure on his brain.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Oluoch Olunya says Raila Odinga’s recovery is going according to plan and that the Kenyan leader was well enough to exercise Wednesday.
Salim Lone, Odinga’s spokesman, says Nelson Mandela is among the people who have wished the prime minister a quick recovery.
Odinga was admitted to hospital late Monday.
Odinga became prime minister when he signed a power-sharing deal with President Mwai Kibaki to end the country’s 2007-2008 postelection violence in which more than 1,000 people died.
