Obama: Attacks on Kagan ‘pretty thin gruel’

TORONTO — President Barack Obama says that attacks on his Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan, have been “pretty thin gruel.”

Obama notes that Kagan has been dean of a prestigious law school — Harvard, where Obama himself earned a degree.

Obama also said Sunday that members of the Senate Judiciary Committee should “vote their conscience” on the nomination.

Hearings on Kagan begin Monday. Obama spoke at the close of the G-20 summit in Toronto.
