US commander: No sign of another NKorean attack

SINGAPORE — The top U.S. military commander in the Pacific says there is no sign now that North Korea is planning another strike or provocation against South Korea.

Adm. Robert Willard calls the sinking of a South Korean warship an egregious attack, and out of the norm even for the unpredictable North Koreans.

Willard says there are no indications that the North is massing troops or preparing another nuclear test. The North has already demonstrated a crude nuclear capability.

Willard told reporters Friday that he has ordered his own forces to be especially vigilant because of the attack. He would not give details of a planned upcoming joint military exercise between the U.S. and South Korea.
