Gunmen kill 4 police at checkpoint in NW Pakistan
PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Authorities say gunmen have attacked a police checkpoint in northwest Pakistan, killing four officers.
Local police chief Amin Shah says one officer was also wounded when assailants opened fire Friday on the checkpoint in Mansehra district.
The motive of the attack was not known, but militants have been targeting police in the region in recent months.
On Feb. 20, militants attacked two police stations in the region, killing one officer and wounding four others.
Mansehra is about 120 miles (200 kilometers) north of the city of Peshawar.
