Haryana to draft plan to curb cyber attacks

CHANDIGARH - In a bid to counter cases of cyber attacks and cyber terrorism, the Haryana government has directed all heads of various departments, deputy commissioners, chief executives of boards, corporations and agencies to draw a Crisis Management Plan (CMP), an official said here Tuesday.

According to officials of the state information technology department, all information assets, which need to be protected from various departments, should be covered under CMP.

The state government has also directed the concerned authorities to immediately take necessary steps to implement the CMP in their respective areas.

“We are preparing an organisational plan, outlining roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders and a CMP coordination process. Under CMP, we would identify critical information assets and implement the department’s information security policy to secure them,” an official spokesperson of Haryana’s information technology department said.

He added: “Heads of all departments have been asked to implement CMP and to draft a compliance report on a periodic basis. They have also been directed to identity a member of the senior management as the chief information security officer (CISO) to coordinate security policy compliance efforts across the department.

The state government has also been directed to establish a crisis management group, in each division, with heads of the departments as its chairman and to prepare a list of contacts with respect to information security and CMP.
