Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has reacted sharply to the alleged phone tapping of four senior political leaders, including him, by the intelligence agencies.

“It’s a dangerous trend in democracy and completely an illegal act. What type of problem a chief minister like me can create for them? On what issues are they tapping the phone? Who gave them this right”, Nitish asked today.

The chief minister said attempts were being made to crush the democratic values by the ruling Congress-led coalition government.

A national English magazine today reported that the intelligence agencies tapped the mobile phones of senior leaders like Congress leader Digvijay Singh, JD-U leader Kumar, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and CPIM leader Prakash Karat.

The magazine said the National Technical Research Organisation which comes under the Prime Minister Office monitored the whole exercise.
