A day after a deadly attack by the Maoist insurgents killed 76 police in Chhatisgarh, Bihar has ruled out launching operation against the left wing extremists.

“The Operation Green Hunt is a hundred percent Centre sponsored campaign against the Maoist guerrillas and unless the former gives such proposals to the state government, nothing can be said about this”, Bihar’s director general of police Neelmani said today.

He said the state govenrment was already running campaign against the rebels with the help of para-military forces and state police which had yielded desired results.

The central government has called for launching Operation Green Hunt against the Maoists in some states badly infested with Maoist activities but states like Bihar and Jharkhand have opposed the move.

Especially, the NDA govenrment in Bihar headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar has strongly opposed the move of the centre apprehending it could affect the party’s poll prospects.

Bihar goes to polls in October this year.
