RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The Saudi state news agency SPA says former U.S. President Bill Clinton is in Saudi Arabia to visit the Saudi King.
The agency says Clinton met with King Abdullah and a group of Saudi dignitaries Wednesday evening.
The purpose of the former president’s visit to the conservative, oil-rich kingdom was not immediately known.
Clinton heads the William J. Clinton Foundation, which works in the United States and around the world on issues like health care — particularly HIV/AIDS — climate change and economic development.
Saudi Arabia and other Mideast countries, including Kuwait and Qatar, have contributed to Clinton’s charitable foundation, which financed his presidential library in Little Rock, Arkansas.
