KOHIMA - Sitting Rajya Sabha member Khekiho Zhimomi of the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) was Friday re-elected to the upper house of parliament from Nagaland, officials said.

“Zhimomi, 69, who was the combined nominee of the NPF-led ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), secured 40 votes while Congress candidate and former Nagaland Mahila (woman) Congress president Imdanglemla Aier, 64, got 19 votes,” Nagaland assembly secretary A.E. Lotha told reporters here after the poll.

Lotha, who was the returning officer to the poll, said that 59 legislators of the 60-member Nagaland assembly Friday exercised their franchise at the Nagaland assembly secretariat here to elect the lone Rajya Sabha member from the northeastern state.

A Congress legislator could not cast his vote as he is currently undergoing treatment in New Delhi.
