Call for separate department to handle Malaysian Indians’ issues
By ANITuesday, March 23, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR - Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Commissioner N. Siva Subramaniam has expressed the urgent need for a separate department under the Prime Minister’s Department to handle the socio-economic problems of the Indian community.
Subramaniam will reportedly present a paper on the need for the department to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.
He said the department would be able to bring the problems of the Indian community directly to Razak and to assist in resolving them, The Star reports.
Subramaniam further said the move was vital, as some problems of the community had failed to reach the Prime Minister.
He also said that there was a need for Indians to be sent as disciplinary and counseling teachers to address problems of Indian students in secondary schools. (ANI)
