New York (GaeaTimes.com) The vote on the health care legislation was scheduled for this Sunday and after a prolonged debate of over a year, the Democratic Congress handed President Obama a huge victory on Sunday Night. The passing of the bill could mean a slew of changes taking effect within months. But the impact of the bill would be felt for the years to come.

President Obama watched the vote from the White House’s Roosevelt Room. There were Vice President Joe Bidden along with 40 other staff aides. When the 216 votes finally came in, they burst into applause and hugs. It is reported that Congressional Officials expected the bill to be signed by Obama as early as Tuesday and make a statement following the vote.

We proved that we are still a people capable of doing big things

Said President Obama.

We proved that this government - a government of the people and by the people - still works for the people.

The cost of the bill is expected to be around $940 billion over two years with coverage to 32 million Americans who are currently uninsured. The uninsured persons would be able to purchase insurance through state based exchanges. Individuals and families with income between 133% and 400% of poverty level will get subsidies for the insurance. For your information, the current Federal Poverty Level for a family of four is $22,050. The bill also separates private insurance premium funds from taxpayer funds. In cases of abortion, individuals have to pay the charges with two separate payments.
