Orissa to reserve half of Pachayati Raj seats for women

BHUBANESWAR - The Orissa government Friday announced 50 percent reservation for women in Pachayati Raj bodies.
Speaking on the occasion of the 94th birth anniversary of legendary Biju Patnaik, Naveen Patnaik said that the state will soon take steps to reserve 50 percent seats in pachayati raj systems.
He also added that, “it was the dream of Biju Patnaik to empower women”.
The state is observing the birth anniversary as Panchayati Raj Day.
