Obama weighs basketball meetup with new Sen. Brown
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Could President Barack Obama use the basketball court to avenge a Democrat’s loss in a key Senate race?
A spokesman for new Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown says he’s game for a matchup offered by the mayor of basketball’s birthplace. An Obama spokesman says the invitation is being studied.
Springfield Mayor Dominic Sarno (SAHR’-no) says in a letter Wednesday to the White House that the event could benefit charities in the city.
Brown is a Republican who upset a Democrat last month to claim the Senate seat long held by the late Edward Kennedy.
He later challenged the basketball-loving president to a game featuring two female players, including Brown’s daughter Ayla (AY’-luh). She plays for Boston College.
