ROHTAK - The pre-wedding day bash of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s son Deepender Singh Hooda, who is member of parliament from Rohtak, has this Haryana town all geared up.

Nearly 20,000 people - from ministers, MPs, legislators to bureaucrats and others - are expected to turn up for the lunch, being hosted by the Hooda family Wednesday as Deepender prepares for his wedding.

The wedding is scheduled to be held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Feb 21.

Deepender, 32, is wedding Sweta, grand-daughter of the late Rajasthan Congress leader Nathuram Mirdha.

This is Deepender’s second marriage. His first marriage to Geeta Grewal, a dentist and daughter of a Haryana government official, ended in divorce in 2005.

Sweta’s elder sister Jyoti Mirdha is a Congress MP from Nagaur in Rajasthan.

Tight security arrangements have been made in and around Rohtak town, 70 km from New Delhi, in view of a number of VIPs coming for the wedding, along with thousands of other invitees, police said.

Additional police units and officials have been brought from other parts of Haryana for security for the bash.

The chief minister, his wife Asha Hooda and his octogenarian mother Hardevi will play hosts for the pre-wedding lunch on the grounds of the Baba Mastnath College of Engineering on Delhi Road here.

Deepender Hooda was pushed into politics in 2005 after his father resigned from the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat after becoming Haryana’s chief minister.

Deepender won the Rohtak parliament seat by an impressive margin of over 445,000 votes in May last year. He had won a by-election from this constituency in October 2005 by nearly 232,000 votes.
