Nevada Lt. Gov. won’t seek race against Harry Reid

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki says he won’t seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Harry Reid, despite months of courting from top party leaders in Washington.

In a conference call Thursday, Krolicki said he will seek re-election in November as lieutenant governor — the job he’s held since 2006. He says that given Nevada’s economic crisis, the position has more importance than ever.

Republican leaders had urged Krolicki to enter a GOP primary field that already has about a dozen contenders seeking to unseat Reid, the Democratic Senate majority leader who is seeking a fifth term and is considered vulnerable.

A poll conducted for the Las Vegas Review-Journal last month found that 52 percent of Nevadans had an unfavorable opinion of Reid.
