JHARGRAM - Suspected Maoists shot dead a Trinamool Congress worker near Jhargram in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the body of 26-year-old Rishi Dolai was retrieved from the Barokuria ghat on the Kangsabati River.
On Tuesday evening, over 20 Maoists surrounded Dolai’s house at Manikpara village and took him at gunpoint to the riverside.
According to police, the body was found with hands tied behind.
Maoists shot at Dolai’s head from point blank range.
Dolai was said to be an aide of SK Mintu Ali, a local Trinamool Congress leader. Ali was killed by Maoists on January 7.
This is the first incident after Trinmool Congress leader and Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee made an open appeal to Maoists to leave violence and come to mainstream of the life.
On January 15, addressing a rally at Jhargram Banerjee had urged the Maoist cadres to “shun violence and give up arms”.
“I appeal to you with folded hands to shun violence and give up arms. I can even touch your feet. But for God’s sake, start negotiations,” she had said. (ANI)
