PANAJI - A group of students associated with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday submitted a CD to the Goa governor and called it a “clinching evidence” of the political nature of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s meetings at the Goa university (GU) Jan 19.
The video, screened for the media later, shows the young Congress leader speaking about the party’s political resurgence in Uttar Pradesh in his address to the state Congress politicians.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, state Congress president Subhash Shirodkar, all Congress legislators and cabinet ministers had assembled at the Goa University football ground for Gandhi’s address.
“We are thankful to Governor S.S. Sidhu, who has assured a formal enquiry into Rahul Gandhi’s political visit to the university. We have submitted this VCD, as one of the evidences we have collected that confirms the political nature of Rahul Gandhi’s visit,” Rupesh Mahatme, convenor of the group that brands itself as the BJP students’ wing, told reporters.
In the CD, Gandhi is also shown speaking about his visit to Goa in connection with the Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) and the Youth Congress elections.
Gandhi’s visit to the Goa University Jan 19 created a storm, with varsity registrar Mohan Sangodkar being forced to submit his resignation, after he admitted it was his mistake to allow Gandhi to conduct these meetings on the campus.
Sangodkar has also blamed Youth Congress president Sankalp Amonkar for keeping him in the dark about the political nature of Gandhi’s visit.
Rahul Gandhi addressed three meetings, one to the Pradesh Congress Committee, one to the Youth Congress, and the third was an interaction with the students community.
Only those students who had passes issued by the Congress were allowed at the meeting.
