NEW DELHI/PUNE - Deported Nepali national Neetu Singh, who was packed off to her country by police in Pune last month, will soon return to complete her interrupted studies at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), officials said.
Neetu Singh, a final year editing student at the film institute, was ordered by the state government to leave the country Dec 7, 2009 reportedly on grounds that she was allegedly involved in anti-India activities.
An official said, the union home ministry has not endorsed the state government’s view.
“The central government has cleared Neetu’s return to India and even allowed her to complete her course at the FTII,” a home ministry official told IANS in New Delhi.
Neetu Singh, 30, has been asked to return to Nepal as soon as she completes her studies and refrain from any interaction with the media, besides signing a bond of good behaviour, a police official said in Pune.
Her plans to complete her five-year course were rudely interrupted following her sudden deportation last month.
However, sources at the FTII - an autonomous institution under the ministry of information and broadcasting - said they were not aware when Neetu Singh was expected to return and complete her course here.
