GUWAHATI - Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Wednesday admitted that graft has taken place under his rule, but launched a counter attack claiming the two terms of main opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) were also ridden by rampant corruption.
GUWAHATI - The ruling Congress party and Assam's main opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Saturday traded charges of corruption, marking the formal launch of electioneering for the state assembly elections expected in March-April.
GUWAHATI - The full bench of the Central Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi will visit Assam later this week to oversee the state's preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections, an official said Monday.
GUWAHATI - The peace process between the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) led by its chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa and the government came under a cloud with the outfit's elusive commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah Friday rejecting the initiative.
GUWAHATI - Assam's ruling Congress will bank on the twin mantras of "development and peace" to win the upcoming assembly elections for the third consecutive term, says Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, exuding confidence that the people of the state will vouch for his governance once again.
