Abu Dhabi, Feb 25 (IANS/WAM) Nuclear cooperation between the US and the United Arab Emirates aims to ultimately mitigate carbon pollution, a senior American official has said.

“Nuclear energy has a very important role to play in a low-carbon future,” US Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel Poneman told WAM Friday in Abu Dhabi following a meeting with UAE energy officials.

The senior official hailed the long-standing and the incredibly diverse relationship the US developed with the UAE.

“It embraces almost every aspect of endeavour, from security cooperation to energy and environment, to education and culture,” Poneman said following a meeting with senior officials of Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s multi-faceted initiative advancing the development, commercialisation and deployment of renewable and alternative energy.

Poneman said that he had discussions with UAE officials on various matters including energy efficiency and nuclear energy cooperation.

“One thing we are very much looking forward to is the next clean energy ministerial in Abu Dhabi,” he said.
